Young players can sign up for league play during the winter season in 4 different age categories, which are based on the year of birth.
- Under 12 – For players born in the years 2012 to 2007
- Under 15 – For players born in the years 2006 to 2004
- Under 21 Junior – For players born in the years 2012 to 2007
- Under 21 Senior – For players born in the years 2006 to 2004
To sign up, each player must complete a player registration. Before the season begins, Junior players will attend evaluation sessions within their own age group based on their year of birth. If a player wishes to play the season in an age category above their own age category, they can also attend the evaluation session for the higher division – provided they are in the final year for their own age category.
For those that are new to playing hockey, Ice Hockey Victoria offers a development program specifically for beginners of all ages. It is highly recommended that players gain their experience through the development program before signing up for league play unless otherwise experienced from playing ice hockey elsewhere.
