Come to Melbourne’s first ever Hockey Festival to launch the 2018 Ice Hockey Winter Season. Four Australian Ice Hockey League teams, eight games and only one champion.
To launch the 2018 season Melbourne Ice is hosting the Adelaide Adrenaline, CBR Brave and Melbourne Mustangs. Watch the best of the best fine tune for the season ahead and dine with all the AIHL players on Saturday night as they raise funds for local junior hockey.
Concussions are a huge challenge for many sports and thanks to our event partner, Stop Concussions, we will be holding the very first educational concussion forum for all Ice Hockey Victoria players, coaches, officials parents and the attending AIHL teams, putting ice hockey ahead of any other sport in Australia.
The Hockey Festival begins on Saturday 14th April, 2018 at O’Brien Group Arena with a FREE concussion seminar presented by Natalie Perkins BSc (Anat.& Ex.Phys), BAppSc (PHTY), Director of Bodyworks Physiotherapy and the official Australian Ambassador of StopConcussions Foundation. This course is free for all Ice Hockey Victoria and Edge of Excellence players, parents, officials, coaches and volunteers.
The seminar will include:
- Definition of concussion
- Signs and symptoms of a concussion
- Basic pathophysiology (ie. what happens in a concussion)
- Immediate management of concussion (what “rest” means)
- Common clinical trajectories of concussion
- Concussion rehabilitation
- Return to play
- Busting the myths according to the latest research
Later that evening there will be a charity dinner held in the St. Moritz Bar at the O’Brien Group Arena where the funds raised will go towards the Ice Hockey Victoria Junior program and Stopconcussions. You can dine with the players of the Australian Ice Hockey League and a jersey from each team will be auctioned off.
